So how long do TCF Canada results take? A few weeks, depending on your centre. The test is marked centrally by France Éducation international (FEI), so the wait includes shipping from your centre, marking, and issuing your attestation. Here is the full timeline and how to plan around an Express Entry deadline.
How long TCF Canada results take: the timeline
Typical timings after you finish the test (approximate; FEI and your centre are the official sources):
| Stage | What happens | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| 1. After the test | Your centre packs up the session and sends the materials (including speaking recordings and written answers) to FEI. | A few days, varies by centre |
| 2. Marking | FEI marks all four skills. Listening and reading are scored automatically; writing and speaking are marked by trained examiners. | Up to about 15 business days after FEI receives the materials |
| 3. Results released | Your scores appear in your online TCF candidate space and are sent to your centre. | Usually 2–4 weeks after test day |
| 4. Attestation | Your official results attestation is issued. This is the document you use for your IRCC application. | Often several weeks after test day; some centres quote around 6 weeks |
Why your results might take longer
- Shipping time from your centre. The 15-business-day target starts when FEI receives your session, not on your test day. Centres far from France or that run small sessions can add days.
- Public holidays. Business days skip weekends and holidays in France and in your country. Summer and the end-of-year period are often slower.
- Busy periods. When French-category Express Entry draws push more people to test, centres and markers handle more papers.
- Identity or file issues. A name mismatch or missing information can hold up your attestation. This is why your booking name must match your ID exactly.
If you are past the date your centre gave you, contact the centre first. They are your point of contact, and they can check the status with FEI.
Planning around an Express Entry deadline
Work backwards. If you need your French result to create or update an Express Entry profile by a certain date, a safe plan looks like this:
- Leave at least 6 weeks between your test date and the day you need the attestation. More is better.
- Add time to book. Popular centres can fill weeks ahead. See how to book the TCF Canada.
- Add time for a possible retake. If you miss your target level in one skill, you will need another session and another results wait.
- Check validity. IRCC generally requires language results to be less than two years old when you apply. Confirm the current rule on the official IRCC language testing page.

Keep practising. If one skill falls short, you will want to rebook quickly. A realistic waiting-period routine:
- Write down what felt hard right after the test, while you still remember: task types, timing, topics.
- 20–30 minutes a day on the skill you think was weakest, using timed practice.
- One timed mock a week so you stay used to exam pressure.
